Job Duties:

The Virginia Beach Police Department provides a safe community for our residents by delivering quality police services. Our Real Time Crime Center is seeking an experienced Crime Analyst to join their state-of the-art center in our Operations Division. This position will support law-enforcement as they are responding to critical incidents.

The following are duties/responsibilities that a Real Time Crime Analyst will be expected to perform regularly:

  • Monitor Priority CFS and Provide Real-Time Information
    • Priority CFS
      • Focus on Priority 1 & 2 CFS
      • Emphasis on CFS that involve violence and officer safety
  • Intelligence Analyst Functions
    • Case Support
    • Social Network Analysis
    • Officer Safety
    • Dissect Emerging Analyst Trends from Analytical Services Unit
    • Tactical Analysis and Support
    • Monitor LPR Alerts
  • Monitor Camera Feeds Across the City
    • Critical Areas
    • Known Incidents
    • Special Events
    • Investigative Monitoring
    • Communicate as needed
  • Crime Interruption and Problem Solving
    • Support Appropriate Operational Group(s)
    • Support Special Operational Projects as needed
  • NIBIN Support
    • Assist with Lead Development
    • Provide Intelligence Product for Inclusion
    • Assist with Investigative Efforts
  • Priority Offender Process
    • Communicate Offender Trends
    • Develop and Maintain Priority Offender Metrics
    • Surveil OSINT on Priority Offenders
    • Participate in Priority Offender Meetings

Duties are not limited to the above and Crime Analysts may be expected to perform additional functions.

Disqualifiers:

Criminal History: Conviction of any felony or any crime involving moral turpitude (crimes contrary to justice, honesty, or good morals). Conviction of any Class 1 or Class 2 misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations which are discussed separately, or the Virginia State Law equivalent within the last 5 years.

Traffic Violations: Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years.

Drugs: Any involvement in the sale of illegal drugs as an adult. Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years. Illegal possession of anabolic steroids within the last 36 months.

Minimum Requirements:

CRIME ANALYST I MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors degree and one (1) year experience in fields such as computer science, geography, criminal justice, information technology, business administration, or public administration OR an equivalent combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

CRIME ANALYST II MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) year experience in fields such as computer science, geography, criminal justice, information technology, business administration, or public administration OR an equivalent combination of education (above high school level) and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with this position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Qualified candidates will have:
Experience as a Crime/Intel Analyst
Experience using SQL or other query methods
Experience with ArcGIS/ArcPro
Experience with social network analysis
Experience using data for problem-solving
Experience with OSINT
Experience supporting field operations
Experience in high-pressure situations
